How UAE salons cut no-shows: prepayment, reminders and easy rebooking

· 3 min read

A missed appointment costs more than its price. The chair sits empty, the stylist is paid anyway, and a client who wanted that slot booked somewhere else. No salon gets no-shows down to zero, but most can make them rare. These are the habits that work.

Take payment up front for the services that matter

A client who has already paid rarely forgets. You don’t need payment up front for a quick blow-dry, but long or high-value services such as colour, keratin, bridal packages and spa treatments are where a no-show hurts most. Ask for payment when the client books online, and say clearly whether it is refundable and until when.

Send a reminder the day before

Most no-shows are simply forgotten bookings. A short message the day before gives the client a nudge, and a chance to cancel in time so you can offer the slot to someone else. Make it part of closing up each evening: tomorrow’s list, one WhatsApp message per client, done in minutes.

Make changing a booking easy

It sounds backwards, but a client who can move a booking easily will do that instead of not turning up. Put the way to reach you, or to rebook, in the confirmation itself, rather than leaving the client to find your number. A moved booking is a slot you can still sell; a no-show never is.

Write a short cancellation policy and show it at booking

Decide how much notice you need (24 hours is common) and what happens to a prepaid booking when a client cancels late. Show the policy on the booking page before the client pays, and again in the confirmation. A policy nobody saw is hard to enforce.

Sell packages and memberships

A client who has prepaid five sessions has every reason to use them. Packages and monthly memberships also make your income steadier, which takes the sting out of the odd empty slot. They also turn a one-off visit into a habit.

Fill the gaps quickly

Keep a short list of regulars who are happy to come in at short notice, and post last-minute openings on your Instagram stories. With online booking, a freed slot is bookable the moment it opens, even at midnight.

Keep track of who doesn’t turn up

Note no-shows on the client’s record. One missed visit is usually an accident; two in a row is a pattern. Ask that client to pay in full when they book next time, and most will either turn up or cancel properly. The few who don’t were costing you more than they paid.

How Tajerio helps

Tajerio gives your salon its own booking page where clients choose a service, a stylist and a time, and can pay in full by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay when they book. They get a confirmation email at once, and another if the time changes. Each stylist’s diary refuses double bookings, packs of sessions and memberships give clients a reason to come back, and every visit, including a no-show, stays on the client’s record.
